I am a public school teacher and I encourage you to vote for Rod Hall to serve District 3 on the Utah State School Board. I have known Rod for many years and I can attest that what you see is what you get. He is one of the most genuine, honest people I know.
As an elementary public school teacher, I have seen so many of my colleagues quit the profession completely. This is mainly due to an extremely challenging work load, lack of support, and a diminishing level of respect for the job we do. Since Rod joined this race, he has not only listened to my concerns but has sought out the suggestions from many teachers on how to make Utah schools better. It is his heart to create an environment where students can thrive. He understands that a key piece in reaching this goal is to have happy, satisfied teachers working in an environment in which they feel safe and appreciated.
Another concern many teachers have is a lack of time to teach the required core curriculum. Right now, most elementary teachers are working at least 10-15 hours of unpaid time every week. One of Rod’s goals is to clear our plates of some of the excessive testing required, the constant changes in curriculum, and time spent teaching sensitive topics that would better be taught at home. With more time, teachers might possibly be able to give those struggling students a little more one-to-one help, as well as get them out the door and home to their own families at a more reasonable hour.
What we are doing right now is simply not sustainable. It is a system that has many problems that are only getting worse with the passing of each school year. We must preserve a strong, viable public education system for our future students. It’s time for a change!
Please take a moment to learn more about Rod Hall and his goals for the future of public education in Utah. If you still have questions, just reach out to him and ask. I’m sure he would be happy to talk with you. Once again, I ask for your vote for Rod Hall, Utah State School Board District 3.
